		<description>Hello Rebecca,
I am glad you liked it!
It&#039;s definitely something we don&#039;t get to see very often! And although I have been working with these parrots for over a decade, they still amaze me!
Thank you for your comment!

		<description>Hi Monica

The sad part of this situation is the severe decline in the recruitment for this species. And that 9 out of 10 nestlings removed collected will die before it gets to the final buyer. They die of dehydration, starvation, and diseases. And if this was not enough, the ones that survive have a small chance to be reintroduced.

During transportation, smugglers usually pack dozens of nestlings in tiny little boxes, dirty, wet and cold, no food, no water. The boxes you see in the images in this posts do a great job on keeping them warm and clean, and perfectly contribute to the rehabilitation of the nestlings. And although caring for 400 nestlings is not an easy job, the personnel responsible for taking care of them at CRAS do an excellent job and have extensive experience on handling this situation.
On 2008, a total of 788 nestlings were seized at Campo Grande and taken to CRAS. And, thanks to the 20-year experience and dedication of their personnel, the vast majority survived. They are now being relocated and some of them may even return to nature.
The Blue-fronted Parrot Project has been working very hard to fight against the illegal animal trade, and hope to bring to an end this sad situation.

Thank you for your post, and please, do not hesitate to contact us if you have any question/comment! And keep an eye in the blog, as better news are coming soon!

		<description>Hi Sylvia,
it is really fabulous! The equipments we have been using to monitor the nests are great and allow us to get such incredible images. We are trying to raise some more funding to acquire more equipments for image and sound capture, to allow a better recording of the parental care behavior.

Thanks you for the comment!

<description>Because here in Brazil the trade of these parrots collected from the wild is not legal (in some countries such as Argentina, the commerce of these parrots is regulated), they are illegaly sold at the side of roads, and at some markets (usually hidden underneath boxes, in tiny cages, very poor conditions). It is estimated that 90% of the parrots collected do not even reach its final buyer, dying during the shipment, from diseases, starvation, and/or dehydration.

And if this was not enough problem, these people that end up buying a illegal parrot usually have no idea of how to raise a parrot. And most of the parrots brought to the vet have nutritional problems, such as bone deformities and fractures, and complications of those.

There are many legal breeders in Brazil that sell all kinds of parrots born in captivity, with a microship, ringband, and documentation. But most of the people are still resistant to acquire a legal parrot, because they are obviously more expensive. These are the ones that are usually found at pet stores.

DO YOU WANT TO HELP THESE PARROTS?!
By donating to our Project, you can help to fight against the illegal pet trade, through educational progams to raise public awareness!! Any donation is trylly appreciated!

Thak you for the comments, and keep checking our blog! ;0)
